Museum Guggenheim

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, inaugurated in 1997, has been designed by the well known architect Frank O. Gehry. The museum was conceived as part of a revitalization plan for Bilbao, becoming a magnificent example of the most groundbreaking architecture of the 20th century.

Immediately after its opening, the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao became a popular tourist attraction, drawing visitors from around the globe and earning its place as the city's centerpiece of modern architecture.

The Gehry's incredible titanium design, with its radically sculpted, organic contours and its brilliantly reflective titanium panels resembling fish scales, makes the building itself worth a visit. A combination of elements that create a unique exhibition space for each gallery. Art and architecture join hands in a truly unique museum experience.

In addition to the permanent collections (“The matter of time” by Richard Serra, as well as a Selection of Site-Specific and Outdoor Installations) you will have the chance to visit several temporary exhibitions:

  • Installations II: Video from the Guggenheim Collections
  • Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe

The Atrium is the true heart of the museum and a crucial feature of Frank O. Gehry's architectural design. Measuring over 50 metres in height it is an spectacular place for holding a dinner.
